After living on the streets for a numbers of months, eventually a school friend told him about a youth service based at Anglicare in Canberra city. One of the services – through a partnership with the YMCA – offers young people a safe place to relax, have a meal, receive encouragement from the team members and help with other practical matters like food hampers, advocacy, and access to a shower and laundry.
I didn’t come to the service straight away because I thought it sounded too good to be true… initially I wasn’t even trying to help myself and that was the problem,” explains Liam.
“Now that I’m here it’s really easy to describe it. In a nutshell, it’s heaven!”
