No two journeys to The Junction are the same. The young people who come for the support of our doctors, nurses, and youth workers have experienced diverse and often traumatic challenges. That’s why—in addition to clinical care, mental health support and case management—the team creates opportunities for fun and social connection.
Earlier this month, The Junction hosted their second free, seasonal market, open to all young people aged 12-25. The Pre-Summer Market featured free food, art, and games, giveaways of books, clothing, swimwear and even mini, light-up Christmas trees.
For many young people that access The Junction, being welcomed without judgement and with genuine kindness is a new experience. Events like this not only provide items they may otherwise go without—they offer respect and belonging, which can help change the trajectory of their lives.
Throughout the afternoon, young people enjoyed basketball, table tennis, art activities and summer shopping—while catching up with youth workers in a relaxed and fun setting. Members of our Youth Reference Group helped plan the day, offering suggestions for what young people may need, and assisted with set-up and cooking sausages.
Thank you to everyone who came along and made this another successful, youth-centred event!
