CHILD SAFETY

Child Safety at Anglicare
At Anglicare, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating environments where children feel safe, respected, and supported to thrive.
Our work with children and families—particularly through our early learning and out-of-home care services—carries a profound responsibility. We take this responsibility seriously by embedding child-safe practices into our culture, leadership, and everyday service delivery.
At Anglicare, child safety is everyone’s responsibility.
It is central to who we are and how we serve.
Our Commitment
We are guided by the ACT Child Safe Standards, the NSW Child Safe Standards and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, ensuring that child safety is not only a policy, but a lived value across our organisation.
Our commitment means we will:
- Put children and young people at the centre of decisions that affect them
- Listen to and respect children, families, and communities
- Promote inclusion and equity for all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with disability, and children from diverse backgrounds
- Maintain a zero‑tolerance approach to harm
Safe and supported people
We ensure that all staff and volunteers are carefully selected, supported, and accountable for upholding child safety.
Our approach includes:
- Rigorous recruitment processes that assess values, integrity, and child safety capability
- Mandatory checks such as Working With Children Checks and criminal history screening
- Structured interviews and thorough reference checks
- Ongoing supervision, training, and professional development
These practices ensure that every person working with children at Anglicare is safe, suitable, and committed to protecting children.
Building a child safe culture
Child safety is embedded across our organisation through:
- Strong leadership and governance
- Clear policies and procedures
- Safe, accessible ways to raise concerns or complaints
- Continuous review and improvement of our safeguarding practices
We equip our staff with the knowledge and confidence to recognise and respond to child safety concerns, including mandatory reporting obligations and trauma‑informed care
Working together
Creating safe environments for children is a shared responsibility.
We work in partnership with children, families, carers, and communities to:
- Encourage participation and feedback
- Build trust and transparency
- Ensure services respond to the needs and voices of children and young people
