When Rosie* first entered Anglicare’s care four years ago, she was carrying the deep impacts of significant childhood trauma.

Unable to remain with her family, Rosie moved into one of our Intensive Therapeutic Care homes, where young people with complex needs receive round-the-clock support in a safe, stable and trauma-transformative environment.

Like many young people who have experienced trauma, Rosie initially found it difficult to manage her emotions and relationships. During the early stages of her time in care, personal interactions and daily responsibilities presented a challenge, and her future felt uncertain.

However, through the consistent support of a dedicated care team, things began to change for Rosie.

Over the years, she built resilience, strengthened her emotional wellbeing, and developed the confidence to pursue her goals. Working closely with Rosie, her extended family and specialist support services, our team helped her access therapeutic and disability supports while providing the advocacy and encouragement needed for her to thrive.

Today, Rosie is achieving milestones that once felt out of reach. She is attending education consistently and has secured a job with a fast-food restaurant, where she has been recognised for her strong work ethic and excellent customer service skills.

Now approaching adulthood, Rosie is preparing for her next chapter with hope. With support from her care team, she is building the practical life skills and confidence needed to transition towards independent living.

True healing takes time, consistency and meaningful relationships, but Rosie’s story reminds us that with the right support, young people can overcome enormous challenges and build bright, independent futures.
