FOSTER CARE –  Application Process
Becoming a foster carer is not a simple decision—but you won’t be on your own. Our team will be with you through every stage, making sure you feel informed, supported and ready.
1. Connect With Our Team

When you’re ready, contact our team by phone or online enquiry. This first step simply starts the conversation — there’s no commitment at this stage!

  • We reach out via your preferred means of contact (phone or email).
  • We send you an Enquiry Pack for Potential Carers, which includes information on the different types of carers and answers many frequently asked questions.
2. Information Session

You’ll be invited to participate in an Information Session, along with any household members who would be involved in caring.

These sessions are relaxed and interactive, and will describe the journey ahead and give you the chance to address questions and concerns.

3. Application Form

The next stage is completing your formal carer application. You’ll be asked to share important documents such as identification, Working With Children Checks, personal references, and details about your household.

Our team will walk alongside you through this part of the process, offering guidance and practical help whenever you need it.

4. Training & Assessment

In this step, we take time to get to know you. We’ll chat about your life and your household, complete the required checks together, and guide you through your training so you feel equipped for the road ahead.

It’s a supportive, steady process with plenty of room for questions and conversation.

5. Report & Decision

Your assessor prepares a detailed Assessment Report, summarising your strengths, readiness, and support needs. A decision is then made regarding your authorisation. If approved, your details are updated in the Carers Register.

6. Matching & Welcoming a Child

When a child or young person is identified as a suitable match for your household, you will be given the information you need to decide whether to accept the placement.

This step focuses on shared decision‑making, ensuring the match works well for both you and the child.

7. Ongoing Support & Training

Once you’re an authorised carer, you’re never left to navigate things on your own. We’ll stay connected with you through regular check‑ins, practical training, and thoughtful conversations about how things are going at home. As new situations arise, we’ll be there to help you make sense of them and offer guidance that fits your family and the child in your care.

Our support grows with you — whether it’s a quick question, a challenge you didn’t expect, or a moment you want to celebrate, you’ll always have someone to reach out to.

And as your journey continues, we’ll walk beside you every step of the way, making sure you feel confident, supported, and never alone in providing a safe and loving home.

Reach out with any questions you have—we’re here to help.
