This week children and staff members at Anglicare’s Early Childhood Centre based at Goulburn TAFE were excited to receive a visit from NSW Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education, The Hon. Dr Geoff Lee and state member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman.

Dr Lee and Ms Tuckerman made time to greet children and staff, participate in some outdoor nature based learning and play activities, and receive gifts of artwork from two children. The pre-Christmas visit was an opportunity for Dr Lee and Ms Tuckerman to see the important role that innovative early learning services provide in preparing children to enter school. Fourteen children from the centre will enter school in 2022.

“It was a delight to meet with everyone at the centre and see such important work in action,” said Dr Lee. “Ensuring that children receive the best start to life and are ready for the transition into school is a significant milestone that can set them up for their future education.”

Ms Tuckerman agreed. “It’s always nice to visit local services and see firsthand the incredible work of the community in action. Seeing children being cared for and participating in engaging programs that are designed to help them connect with each other and develop a love for learning was a privilege.”

Anglicare’s Executive Manager Community Services, Simon Bennett, said that visit was also an encouragement to staff who have continued to provide care for children and their families in challenging circumstances over the past two years throughout COVID restrictions. “Our early childhood educators work extremely hard to make sure children and their caregivers are safe and supported. That’s why it was so positive for the team to meet with Geoff and Wendy, and know that their hard work is seen and valued.”

Anglicare runs a number of early learning services in the Goulburn Mulwaree area, and also provides additional support for families who may need assistance in the lead up to Christmas.
