FOSTER CARE –  Support For Carers
Every foster carer’s journey is one of learning, growth, and discovery—but you won’t be navigating it alone. From your first steps to the day‑to‑day realities of caring, we’re here to support you with practical guidance, training, and resources.

The Support You Need, When You Need It

Introductory Training –

You don’t need any experience to begin your caring journey. We meet you where you are and get you where you need to be. Our Introductory Training gives you the essentials to begin. It combines self‑paced online learning with a one‑day workshop where you’ll explore trauma‑informed care, learn about children’s needs, and connect with our team and other new carers.

Ongoing Learning –

Your development doesn’t stop after you become a carer. As your skills deepen and the needs of the children you care for evolve, we offer ongoing training to help you understand developmental stages, strengthen support strategies, and build cultural awareness. These sessions give you practical tools and a safe space to learn, ask questions, and reflect.

Tailored Support –

Our clinical care team provides access to practical and therapeutic resources, including toolkits, booklets, and online modules. You’ll also receive personalised guidance from your case manager and clinical team to help support you and the children in your care.

Fostering is a significant commitment—and you don’t have to shoulder it alone. Our team is here to provide thoughtful, wraparound support that cares for your practical needs as well as your emotional wellbeing. Whether you’re providing crisis care, short‑term care, or long‑term stability, you’ll be surrounded by a team that understands the journey you’re on.

24/7—guidance
Emergencies can happen at any hour. That’s why support is available around the clock — so whenever you need advice or reassurance, help is only a phone call away.

Connection with peers and support groups
Fostering is easier when you’re not doing it alone. You’ll be invited to join support groups, peer mentoring sessions, and local gatherings where you can share experiences, ask questions and build meaningful connections with people who truly understand what fostering looks like day‑to‑day.

Personalised Case Management
Every child and every household is unique, so the support you receive should be too. Your dedicated case manager will provide personalised guidance, tailored training and practical advice that reflects your circumstances and the needs of the child or young person in your care.

We want every foster carer to feel supported—not stretched. While foster care isn’t a paid job, Anglicare/St Saviours provides financial assistance so you can focus on creating a safe, stable, and nurturing home without carrying the costs on your own. We’re upfront about how payments work and what’s covered, and our team will guide you through the process so you always know what to expect.

Your Foster Care Allowance

As an authorised Anglicare/St Saviours foster carer, you’ll receive a tax‑free Care Allowance to help cover the day‑to‑day costs of caring for a child — things like food, clothing, school needs, travel and leisure activities. You’ll also receive support for initial set‑up costs when a child first comes into your home.

In addition, some extra expenses may be reimbursed when needed, such as the cost of specialist medical appointments or other essential supports for the child.
