Trinity Christian School in Canberra’s south has a long tradition of charitable work. Throughout their 45 years, the school has collaborated with numerous organisations to support individuals and families facing hardship.
Year 12 Captain and co-coordinator of the school’s Christian Growth portfolio, Imogen Larken, was proud to help organise this year’s charitable partnership. Hoping to strengthen community ties and raise awareness, Imogen proposed working with a local charity—Anglicare.
“I really appreciate the work we usually do with international charities” she said. “But I think there is something really important about having awareness that people in your local community are experiencing food insecurity.”
Imogen also highlighted the appeal’s hands-on nature: “It was really cool having a pantry appeal as something tangible instead of just fundraising money—especially for our primary school students who have gotten really behind it. It’s been really exciting.”
Anglicare has also been thrilled by the collaboration. Volunteer Coordinator, Sarah Banning was invited to speak at the school’s Trinity Day Assembly last week, sharing with students the vital work of Anglicare in the community. Sarah encouraged students not only to offer help, but also to seek it when needed—an important reminder for young people.
Although Trinity’s Pantry Appeal had only recently launched, they had already collected more than a car boot full of food. All donations from this Pantry Appeal will be distributed by the emergency relief team at Anglicare’s Gordon Community Centre.
We are incredibly thankful to Trinity Christian School, for choosing to partner with Anglicare, and especially to Imogen for championing the value of giving locally. Her initiative brought fresh energy to the school’s charitable efforts. “Trying something new and proposing that to the school community—and seeing people’s response to that—has been really rewarding”, she said. That extra effort and leadership have made a meaningful impact, and we truly appreciate it.
